MetaDyn Lab, led by Dr. Md Nahid Hasan at Montana Technological University, explores the frontier of physical intelligence by engineering mechanical metamaterials for dynamic reconfigurability, wave control, and soft robotics.
Our research blends nonlinear dynamics, inverse phononic design, programmable metamaterials, and magnetic actuation to create smart systems that morph, adapt, and respond to their environments. From energy-efficient shape-morphing structures to ingestible biomedical devices and reprogrammable acoustic lattices, we integrate theory, computation, and experimentation to advance the science of multistability.
Our work is supported by the National Science Foundation and other agencies, and we actively collaborate across disciplines—from medical robotics to advanced manufacturing. We also prioritize undergraduate and graduate mentorship, hands-on learning, and community outreach to foster the next generation of innovation in mechanics and materials.
